HOLDER, MATCH BOX - HOMEMADE

Overview

The base of the holder is a sheoak board with a bell shape projection and reverse curves below at either side. This is the same at both ends. The actual holder is an open ended rectangular box made from sheoak with a long shelf at the bottom of the chute to catch the match box.

Historical information

Made by Mr Vernon Marsh of Armadale State School, Third Road Armadale. Completed between the ages of 11 and 13. At that time, Armadale State School was the only school in the Southern Corridor to have a manual arts facility. An example of Manual Arts projects conducted in the late 1920's in schools to develop hand skills for future use in employment.
