Overview

Hollow cylindrical record wax over metal in a cardboard cylinder cap at one end. Case has a great deal of text detailing the patent numbers and the conditions of use and an image of Thomas A Edison. Main text is in red and gold lettering [EDISON / GOLD MOULDED / RECORD].

Historical information

Cylinder record for a Edison Gem Phonograph. Cylinders played and recorded music and sounds. Cylinder record plays song 'Whistling Coon'. Invented by Thomas A Edison in the town of Orange, New Jersey USA. Mr Ron Blowes of Thornlie lent the machine to the Armadale History House. Damage caused by white ants to the base of phonograph and some of the record containers. Restored by Barry Blacklow and Guenter Best.
