Raymond Parker WARBURTON was employed as an Electrical Engineer on the transport ship HMAT Pera. He officially boarded in Melbourne on the 18/10/1914 and sailed to Albany Western Australian, where the ship joined with the first convoy amassed in King George Sound, and the convoy left Australian shores on the 01/11/1914. During the First world War Raymond served on 2 transport ships, the HMAT Pera and the SS Shropshire. Raymond was discharged on the 13/06/1919 at Sydney, Australia.
In May 1941, during the Second World War, Raymond at 50 years of age, enlisted in the Voluntary Defence Corps, 7th Battalion, Army No. N318240. He was listed as an Electrical Fitter and at his own request was discharged on the 17/08/1944. This Discharge Letter explains that a letter dated 31/07/1944 was sent to Raymond in error.
