c. 1991a. 1939-45 Star a 6-pointed bronze medal with short piece of dark blue, red and light blue striped ribbon, ensigned with a crown set above the cypher of King George VI and “THE 1939-1945 STAR” beneath. b. Australian Service Medal feature the effigy of King George VI on obverse with the Australian Coat of Arms on reverse with short piece of dark blue, two (2) thin red stripes with tan-colour centre and light blue striped ribbon.
Two (2) Second World War Medals issued to Private Thomas Roland CARR. Born in Sheffield, England on 22 January 1911, Thomas was part of the Militia (W32721) Australian Army Service Corps (AASC) prior to enlisting the 2nd/AIF on 24 September 1941 with the 2nd/16 Battalion. He saw action in the Middle East, and was wounded at Ioribaiwa Ridge, Papua New Guinea before being discharge on 25 February 1946. In the 1980’s Thomas lived at 99 Stead Road, Albany where he was issued his first medal group which were later lost. Another group were reissued in 1991 when he lived in South Australia. Two (2) medals are missing from this group; the Pacific Star and War Medals. Thomas died on 3 December 1993 aged 82 years old.

b. On front “GEORGIVS VI D.G.BR.OMN. REX ET INDIAE IMP.” on obverse, “THE AUSTRALIAN SERVICE MEDAL / 1939-1945 / AUSTRALIA” on reverse with “WX16687 T.R. CAR” impressed on rim.
