The cream-coloured card has, “NOT TRANSFERABLE.” printed top left side; centered is a circled badge and crown with the words “Admiralty. S. W.”, and to the right is the card number, “No. 113878”. On rear is the signature of holder, age and address on left side, and instructions (a) to (e) on right side.

The words, “R. Warburton / Electrician/ Pera”, are handwritten in black ink on front side. Handwritten on rear in black ink is the signature, “R. Warburton”, with his age “25” and his address as “Garryhinch / Rose Bay / Sydney N.S.W.”
Raymond Parker WARBURTON was employed as an Electrical Engineer on board the Admiralty Transport ‘SS Pera’, (HMAT A4 Pera). The transport ship owned by P&O London, was leased by the Commonwealth during the First World War. Transport cards were issued for security purposes to show that individuals had completed the appropriate background checks and they were authorised to enter secure areas such as ports and offshore facilities.The ship ‘SS Pera’ was used to transport Australian and New Zealand troops overseas and was part of the first convoy amassed in King George Sound, Albany WA, and departed 1st November 1914. Onboard the ‘SS Pera’ on that date was 90 soldiers, 6 nurses and 391 horses. The Pera was torpedoed and sunk in Mediterranean on the 19/10/1917.
