First World War Postcard of the ‘Statue of a King in Cairo Museum’, Cairo

A black and white artistic postcard depicting a statue of the head, shoulders and torso of an Egyptian king carved in a dark stone. The statue sits on a stone plinth which displays it’s exhibition number and a small white plaque with a written inscription. The face of the king is clearly visible with a thin beard extending down from the chin. He is depicted with a headdress that is draped over the head and falls onto both shoulders. There is also the outline of a necklace carved into the stone, as well as other carvings on the chest and shoulder. The image is very “unclear” with many white spots both small and larger covering the statue especially the torso. The postcard has an oil stain at the bottom edge which shows both front and back. The reverse of the postcard is a pale green colour with dirt marks visible as well as the stain. The front is printed with a description of the image, and the reverse has proforma printing.
