First World War Postcard of Delta Dam Donkey Market, Egypt

1900 - 1919
Overview

A black and white postcard depicting a large group of men dressed in local robes with numerous donkeys in an open area. In the foreground the men and donkeys are somewhat spread out and many of the donkeys are eating off the floor. These donkeys also have saddles or are carrying packs. In distance a more compact group of men stand together in what is possibly the auction area. There are several mature trees in the area. The postcard is in very good condition front and back. The side edge has perforations that suggest it was separated from another card. The front is printed with a description of the image, and the reverse has proforma printing.

Historical information

Around 1900 Egypt was heavily reliant on the domestic donkey for transport, the carriage of goods and agriculture.
