c. 1915
Overview

The monument sits on sand and nothing else can be seen in the background. The postcard has oil marks on its top left-hand border which show front and back and small damage to its top corners. The reverse has proforma printing and description of the image.

Historical information

The Great Sphinx of Giza was carved from the bedrock of the area during the Fourth Dynasty (c. 2613–2494 BC). Ancient Egyptian sphinxes depicted the king with the body of a lion as a clear symbol of his power.
