First World War Silk Postcard from Pte. Edward Charles MOUCHEMORE 6351
c. 1917Postcard with embroidered silk insert decorated in the design of a basket of red, blue and purple flowers. On the handle of the basket is tied a blue ribbon. Below the flowers is embroidered the sentiment “To my dear Sweetheart” On the back of the card is a handwritten letter in small cursive writing in black ink.
Part of an extensive collection of postcards received by Vera VERGE from her sweetheart Private Edward Charles MOUCHEMORE 6351 who served with the 28th Battalion during the First World War. They met in Albany while attending the same school. Edward was killed in action at Bullecourt, France on 3 October 1918 at the age of 22. The collection was kept by Vera throughout her life and donated to the Princess Royal Fortress Military Museum by a family member in 2019.
