Overview

Very elaborate South African souvenir card with printing in green ink on front. Inside is a print of a bushy landscape scene and a set of 3 fabric painted leaves. On the back is a handwritten letter. Foxing evident on front and inside with noticeable brown stain on back of card. Corners damaged.

Historical information

Part of an extensive collection of postcards received by Vera VERGE from her sweetheart Private Edward Charles MOUCHEMORE 6351 who served with the 28th Battalion during the First World War. They met in Albany while attending the same school. Edward was killed in action at Bullecourt, France on 3 October 1918 at the age of 22. The collection was kept by Vera throughout her life and donated to the Princess Royal Fortress by a family member in 2019.
