First World War Letter Card sent to Miss Vera VERGE
1918An Australian pre-paid letter card with a scallop edge and rounded corners. On the front is a handwritten address, a printed One Penny postage stamp and various ink stamps. There is also some print in red ink and some staining. Inside is a brief letter handwritten in black ink. On the back is a print of the town of Murray Bridge.
Part of an extensive collection of postcards received by Vera VERGE. The collection was kept by Vera throughout her life and donated to the Princess Royal Fortress by a family member in 2019. This card letter envelope is from Edward’s older brother Barnard.

On front “Miss V. Verge. / C/o. H. F. Dawson & Co / 768. Beaufort. Street / Mt Lawley. / West. Aus”. Inside “June 23rd 1918 / Parade Street / Albany / Dear Vera / I am sending you / the notice which we received yesterday / I suppose poor Kid will have to go / back again. I was in hopes it was / good enough for him to come home / But no such luck by the look / of this notice. Mum is very much / upset at the thoughts of him going / back again. Please excuse this / short note hoping this will find / you all well as it leaves us all / at present / Yours Sincerely / Barn.”. On back “Murray Bridge S.A.”.
