Part of an extensive collection of postcards received by Vera VERGE from her sweetheart Private Edward Charles MOUCHEMORE 6351 who served with the 28th Battalion during the First World War. They met in Albany while attending the same school. Edward was killed in action at Bullecourt, France on 3 October 1918 at the age of 22. The collection was kept by Vera throughout her life and donated to the Princess Royal Fortress by a family member in 2019.

On back “London / Feb 28.2.1918 / My Dear Vera / just a card dear to let you know / I am on leaf for 14 days I left the / Batt on the 26 in France and / got hear Last Night at 11pm / it Was about 12pm When I got fixed / up and got to Bed I am over By / myself my Pall did Not get over / yet so I am a strang chap in / a strange Place I don’t think / I Will stay hear I am thinging / of going to Edinburgh to / have a look round I hear that / som of our mail Boats Have / Been sunk so you Will miss / a few Letters I must also thank / you dear Verry much for the / Parcel I got the Night before / I Left over thing Was O.K. / That salt came in Verry handy / that Night I am going to see / my cousins Be fore I go / away so that Will take up / a few days I suppose the / time Will go Verry quick” in black ink.
