Overview

Postcard with embroidered motif of Australian flag overlaid with “Rising Sun” next to plastic cutout of fern leaf with ribbon in French colours around stem both glued onto front of card. In blue print “Australia For Ever!" Slight foxing around border. On back “CARTE POSTALE – POST CARD” in blue print and a short handwritten note in black ink.

Historical information

Part of an extensive collection of postcards received by Vera VERGE from her sweetheart Private Edward Charles MOUCHEMORE 6351 who served with the 28th Battalion during the First World War. They met in Albany while attending the same school. Edward was killed in action at Bullecourt, France on 3 October 1918 at the age of 22. The collection was kept by Vera throughout her life and donated to the Princess Royal Fortress by a family member in 2019.
