LACE, KNITTING, MAT
Early 20th century charming knitted lace table setting from Scotland, made by the aunt of the donor, a Guild member.
The two mats were part of a luncheon set of 4 – table centre, place mat, plate mat and glass mat.
These two are (a) the place mat and (b) the plate mat in a dainty lace design with central 6 petalled flowers surrounded by a leaf sprays which illustrates intricate lace knitting, ‘fairy knitting’, on circular needles with fine white cotton.
The pattern “AZALEA” Design is in the book ‘First Book of MODERN LACE KNITTING’ by Marianne Kinzel, pages 63-65. The outer edge has a crochet finish as illustrated on page 23.
