KNITTING, MAT
This ecru mat, beautifully worked in a fine crochet cotton, combines both knitted centre and crochet outer rim, a most unusual feature. Handcrafts for home use were prevalent in Australia in the early 20th century, a women's magazines proliferated with instructions, enabling a popular pastime for women.
The centre 170 mm diameter, is a knitted swirl design, and beyond, a lattice-like crochet rim 15 mm wide. This knitted swirl is similar in design to the crochet mat # 20___ in the collection.
