MACHINE EMBROIDERY, WHITE WORK, MAT
c. 1900An attractive delicate oval doyley, machine embroidery emulating hand embroidery techniques – cutwork, broderie anglaise, pulled fabric and drawn thread made early 20th century.
In the centre is a whitework flower, petals in satin stitch and leaves separated with cut-work. Beyond, a band of scrolling leaves in broderie anglaise, then a band of cutwork squares and a border of drawn thread work. Around the edge are large whitework roses, petals in satin stitch, centres in pulled fabric, and cutwork separating the leaves.
