LACE, KNITTING, MAT
Mid 20th century finely knitted circular lace doyley was made in Busselton, W.A by the aunt of the donor, who is a Guild member.
The 8 pointed petalled flower illustrates very fine knitting, called ‘fairy knitting’, with fine cotton.
This doyley knitted with fine circular needles has a denser appearance compared with knitted doyley of similar pattern #2023.114 which was worked on larger needles.
It would appear that this design, ‘Coronet Design’, has been adapted from ‘First Book of MODERN LACE KNITTING’ by Marianne Kinzel page 59, showing individuality and extension of original pattern.
