Pale blue rectangle card invitation with blue and grey text on one side. Card edges are stylised and inked gold. Reverse side of the card is white. The blue text was printed onto the card when it was produced and the dance information has been typed onto the card.
The date of the dance 1970 has been changed to 1971 with a red pen witting a 1 over the 0.

Historical information

Ticket to the Burns Dinner Dance held by the Mundijong & District Caledonian Society at the Armadale District Hall on Saturday 23 January 1971. A mistake was made with the cards which had Saturday 23 January 1970 printed instead of 1971 (in 1970 January 23 was a Friday) and the year has been corrected with a red pen. The Burns dinner is a celebration of the life and poetry of Robert Burns and is held near the poets birthday, the 25 January. Burn Dinners or suppers date back to 1801 and traditional feature the reading of Burn's poetry, eating haggis, drinking Scotch whisky and often end with a dance.The Armadale Mundijong Caledonian Society was formed in 1940 as the Mundijong and Districts Caledonian Society and ran through to 1983.

Statement of significance

Ticket to the 1971 Burns Dinner which was once a prominent event in the COA (c1950s-1980s) often held at the Armadale Hall by the Mundijong & districts Caledonian Society. Several families of Scottish heritage lived in the wider area and supported the society. The Mundijong and Districts Caledonian Society was founded in 1940 to celebrate Scottish heritage and culture. The Mundijong & District Caledonian Society also formed a Scottish Pipe music band that operated for many years. The society folded in 1983 due to falling membership.
