Statement of significance

The shirt was issued by the City of Armadale to staff employed by the City who were trained lifeguards at the Armadale Aquatic Centre from the early 2000's to 2017. Lifeguards have operated at Council operated pools since the original public pool was built at Kelmscott in 1957
The shirt represents the potential danger of operating a public pool and the need for trained lifeguards to monitor user behaviour and to provide anyone with assistance should they get into trouble while using the pool facilities. The bright colours of the shirt made the lifeguards easily identifiable.
