Statement of significance

MEDIUM
Lloyd Ryder Hughes was a prominent member of the community throughout his life, involved in sport and voluntary positions, along with his wife, who was better known as Beryl Weston, a national and state diving and swimming champion. A City of Armadale reserve was named in his honour in the suburb of Kelmscott.
The plaque represents the role prominent community members play in helping community organisations through the volunteering of their time and skills. It also represents a small local home business that operated in Kelmscott in the 1950s and 60s.
