Searchlights at Work.
During the visit of Vice-Admiral Sir Wilmot H.Fawkes Commander-in-Chief on the Australian Station to Albany, the naval port of Western Australia. in the flagship, H.M.S Powerful. 14,200 tons (Captain Halsey), the Powerful and the escorting cruisers Challenger. 5,800 tons (Captain Bridson), and Encounter. 5,800 tons (Captain Elliot). gave a searchlight display on Monday night in the Inner (Princess Royal) Harbour (the deepest Harbour of the Australian Continent, having a depth of 33ft, at the lowest known tide). The lights were turned on at 8 p.m., and after wheeling and circling around the harbour were cut off at 9 o'clock. Occasionally a moving beam would play upon a passing cloud. The display was magnificent.
