Historical information

This is a Field Message Book and cover belonging to WX9248 Lieutenant Donald Day 2/32 Battalion AIF. It contains approximately thirty five pages of field notes and a situation reports on the days prior to and during the lead up to the pivotal battle of El Alamein in October 1942. They cover a 72 our period from 25th to the 27th October. These notes were possibly intended to for part of the 2/32 or 26th Brigade unit or war diaries.

There are also summaries of Bde signals traffic that detail position and disposition of several II AIF infantry battalions across the AIF 9th Division, 26th Brigade front.
It includes accounts of enemy tank types and movements. The positions coming under enemy counter attacks, the effect of enemy artillery counter battery work as well as mine field locations. There are also detailed list of L.O.B for various units across the 26th Brigade as they prepare for the major El Alamein offensive.
