GEORGE III 1770, SILVER FOURPENCE
1770A George III 1770 Silver Fourpence. The obverse features a right-facing, laureate crowned bust, surrounded by the legend "GEORGIVS". III. DEI. GRATIA”. The Latin legend translates as "George III by the Grace of God." On the reverse is the crowned mark of value (fourpence), with the date either side of the crown, surrounded by a legend which reads "MAG. BRI. FR. ET. HIB. REX". Meaning "King of Great Britain, France, and Ireland"
Found by local Albany writer, Ryan Guilfoyle, whilst metal detecting on the bank of the King River just south of the King River Bridge, and donated to the Albany Historical Society in 2021.

An unusual find in this location. Close to low water fording points across the King River used during the early settlement of Albany, and just downriver from the old Happy Days Tea Room Water Gardens.
