HEIRLOOM COTTON LACE TABLECLOTH, VINTAGE HAND CROCHET
c. 1950Hand made hollow-out crochet pattern table cloth. Heirloom piece belonging to Towton family of Frankland River WA. Made by Roma Towton over a four year period and used daily in her home.
My mother, Roma, was highly skilled in dressmaking, knitting, embroidery and crotchet work. The tablecloth took four years to make, creating the discs by kerosene lamplight, when money was available to buy thread. The cloth was used daily but mistreated by Mr Towton who cut homemade bread on it and not the cutting board. Roma also dressed many brides and women from Frankland River using her excellent dressmaking skills.
