Royal Air Force sterling silver and enamel sweetheart brooch - 2
c. 1939World War Two era Royal Air Force sterling silver and enamel sweetheart brooch.
It features detailed outspread pilot wings flanking a voided central wreath containing the letters 'RAF' with blue enamel interiors, surmounted by a King's Crown with red enamel detailing.
The words 'STERLING' and 'ENGLAND' are impressed into the reverse.
It has a pin clasp for attachment. It also has a horizontal ring soldered to the top of the brooch so that it could be suspended as a pendant.
This sweetheart brooch is one of many produced and sold to servicemen to give to their loved ones during wartime.
There are several sterling silver and enamel Royal Air Force sweetheart brooches in the collection, but all are slightly different.
