Royal Air Force gold tone oval voided sweetheart brooch

Overview

World War Two era Royal Air Force gold tone sweetheart brooch in the form of a horizontal oval border with the traditional pilot wings attached to both sides.
The outstretched wings flank a central wreath containing the letters 'RAF', surmounted by a King's Crown.
The metal appears to be gilded but some has worn off revealing the base metal underneath.
The reverse of the brooch is plain and it has a pin clasp for attachment.

Historical information

This sweetheart brooch is one of many produced and sold to servicemen to give to their loved ones during wartime.
