Overview

World War Two era Royal Air Force enamel and silver sweetheart brooch comprising a set of pilot wings suspended from a horizontal bar.
The bar has a silver border around three equal sections of blue enamel - the outer two being light blue and the central section dark blue. A ring is attached below the middle of the bar through which a suspension hook is threaded and joined to the pilot wings below.
The outspread pilot wings flank a central wreath containing the silver letters 'RAF' on a pale blue enamel background, surmounted by a King's Crown with remnant red enamel detailing.
Both sections are stamped 'SILVER' on the reverse. and there is a pin clasp on the back of the bar for attachment.

Historical information

This sweetheart brooch is one of many produced and sold to servicemen to give to their loved ones during wartime.
