United States Army Air Force gold tone locket

Overview

World War Two era United States Army Air Force (USAAF) gold tone, shield shaped locket suspended from a decorative ribbon bow pin.
The locket is embossed with the USAAF 'Prop and Wings' insignia—a winged aircraft propeller representing the Army Air Corps. There are a few fine, wavy, vertical lines for decoration.
The bow and locket are joined by a small chain link with each part having a fixed loop.
The locket opens with a hinge on the left hand side and there are no photos or other items within.
The reverse of the locket is plain and a pin clasp is attached to the reverse of the bow for attachment. There is no maker's mark.

Historical information

This sweetheart brooch is one of many produced and sold to servicemen to give to their loved ones during wartime.
