Royal Australian Air Force gold tone, enamel and sterling silver sweetheart brooch in shape of plane
c. 1939World War Two era Royal Australian Air Force sweetheart brooch featuring a gold tone and enamel insignia attached to a sterling silver plane backing.
The insignia features detailed outspread gilded pilot wings flanking a central wreath containing the letters 'RAAF' in gold on a bright blue enamel background, surmounted by a King's Crown with red enamel detailing.
The stylised plane has two engines and has a few inscribed lines for decoration.
The reverse is stamped with 'STG SIL' and has a pin clasp for attachment.
This sweetheart brooch is one of many produced and sold to servicemen to give to their loved ones during wartime.
