Overview

World War Two era Royal Australian Air Force 9 carat gold, silver lined, circular sweetheart brooch in the form of a flat, 8-petalled flower. It features a central crest comprising a laurel wreath with the letters 'RAAF' on a blue enamel background (some of which is missing), surmounted by a King's Crown.
The reverse is plain with the exception of the text '9CT SIL. LINED' and two small raised circles which cover the attachment points of the crest on the front.
There is a pin clasp for attachment. The metal piece which should hold the tip of the pin is missing.

This sweetheart brooch is one of many produced and sold to servicemen to give to their loved ones during wartime.

This brooch is made from high quality gold filled sterling silver which consists of a thick layer of gold bonded to a solid sterling silver base. It is likely to have been manufactured and sold by a jeweller.
