Overview

World War Two era Royal Australian Air Force 9 carat gold, silver lined blue enamel sweetheart brooch. It features detailed outspread pilot wings flanking a solid central wreath containing a blue enamel disc, surmounted by a King's Crown.
The gold letters 'RAAF' are embedded within the blue enamel disc which also has a thin gold border.
It is made in two pieces with the wings and flat base providing a foundation for the enamel disc.
The reverse of the brooch is plain with the exception of '9CT S L' impressed into the back. There is no maker's mark.
It has a pin clasp for attachment.

Historical information

This sweetheart brooch is one of many produced and sold to servicemen to give to their loved ones during wartime.

This brooch is made from high quality gold filled sterling silver which consists of a thick layer of gold bonded to a solid sterling silver base. It is likely to have been manufactured and sold by a jeweller.
