WWI era pendant locket featuring an Australian soldier
c. 1915World War One era circular pendant locket containing the portrait of the head and shoulders of an Australian soldier.
The greyscale image shows a soldier dressed in uniform, with the rising sun collar badges visible on the lapels. He is wearing his peaked cap with leather band.
The circular border around the edge of the portrait is made from gold toned metal.. A thin piece of celluloid covers the photograph.
There is a gold metal spherical fixture at the top which has an affixed loop through which a rusty safety pin is threaded. This may have been worn as a brooch or alternatively, a chain could be threaded through the loop for it to be worn as a pendant.
The reverse also has a celluloid cover. The locket could hold two photos, but only has the one. The name 'KODAK' can be seen on the back of the photograph.
There are no hallmarks or maker's marks.
Photo lockets, pendants and brooches were very popular during wartime and there are a large number of them in the collection.
The identity of the soldier is unknown.
