Overview

A black, pure wool 1996 Atlanta Olympics Australian Team walk-out blazer. Three gold buttons on the jacket front and three smaller gold buttons on each cuff are embossed with the Australian coat of arms and Olympic logo. A spare button of each size and a swatch of matching cloth are in one of the two inside coat pockets. There are three pockets on the blazer front, with the Australian coat of arms and Olympic logo embroidered on the breast pocket in gold thread. A name tag is stitched inside of the collar and bears details of who the blazer was issued to. Three labels inside the blazer bear the manufacturing and care details as well as the logos of sponsors.

Historical information

Baseball had its second appearance as an official medal sport at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, United States, with games played at Atlanta–Fulton County Stadium. Baseball was an event open only to amateurs for the second and last time. Eight nations competed, including Australia making its first appearance in the official Olympic baseball tournament. The team won two of its preliminary round games, against Korea and Japan, but lost the other five. Medal winners were Cuba (gold), Japan (silver) United States (bronze) with Australia in seventh place.
