1985 Western Australian 'Brewers' baseball team cap
c. 1984A 1985 Western Australian 'Brewers' baseball team cap. The pillbox-style cap has a black crown with a yellow fabric-covered top button. Stitched horizontally around the crown are three strips of narrow yellow braid, which have become frayed at the back of the cap. Appliqued to the front of the crown is the West Australian Baseball League logo, which comprises a black circular patch embroidered with a stylised yellow swan. The cap visor is black fabric lined with grey fabric with the player's initials 'TG' written in black pen on the underside. The plastic snapback closure is black.
The 1985 Australian Baseball Claxton Shield Series began in November 1984, with the competition broken into regional divisions – Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory in one division and Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria in the other.
Western Australia faced South Australia in their regional final to advance to the Claxton Shield final, where they faced Victoria and emerged victorious 2-1 in their three-game Championship Series.
This cap formed part of the playing uniform of the victorious Western Australian 'Brewers' team. The West Australian Baseball League emblem is attached to the front of the crown over the letter 'P' (visible from inside the crown). This is because the caps were based on the 'Pittsburg Pirates' design of cap.

Winning the 1984/85 National Baseball Championship was the sixth time Western Australia had won the Claxton Shield. It was the first time the State team had won as the 'Brewers'.
This cap was donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by a member of the winning 'Brewers' team, Tony Goadby.
Of historic and social significance, this cap represents the first year that the State baseball team was known by a name other than 'Western Australia'. The title 'Brewers' referenced the team's major sponsor. The cap is well-provenanced and adds to Western Australia's baseball heritage.
