A MESSAGE FROM OUR LEADER

It started about this time last year. We were full of energy and vigour to do our best. Since then some of this energy has run out, but never the less we did manage to get some things done.

Firstly we were given plastic badges because we were ‘on trial’ our innocence was proclaimed and we all received our metal badges early this year. The graduation from plastic to metal did not happen until we were put under the microscope at a camp at Binningup. For the grand sum of two dollars we had baked beans and cornflakes for two days. The boys did a semi-streak on the beach at midnight and everyone evacuated through the sand hill at the arrival of Mr. Higgins. It was all very energetic and we needed this energy in our efforts to get all of the girls gear into the rafters as they did the dishes. As all this was done in school hours we all had a great time.

One week later most of the fifth years invaded Wellington Mills at the encouragement and through the organization of the prefects. Details of this camp will be supplied by any fifth year for a minimal charge.

Soon after this we were off into the bursts again and shovelled manure. This exercise raised our bank balance greatly, although some of the money is still outstanding.

Bunbury’s clothing stores increased their sales in early June when our upper school students shed their uniforms for suits and ball gowns. The ball, held in the Lighthouse Ballroom and was a great success. Although we congratulate the ‘Belle of the Ball’ Anne Dedman it is possible that she had an inside contact, her being a member of the ‘dedicated dozen’.

Our fund raising activities this year have enabled us to purchase a stereo system and record library for our socials. This was our major project for the year and it has enabled us to greatly lower the price of all socials. The majority of which were very successful due again to student participation.

Our other comments on the year cannot be written here, but can be read on the walls of the prefect’s room. This room and a healthy bank account we do bequeath to next year’s prefects and hope they will carry on where we left off.
