THE PREFECTS’ CAMP
On February the 18th the prefects set off, out into the wilderness in search of the Boyup Brook Flax Mill.
Apart from losing the trailer, carrying all our goodies, at the traffic lights, we travelled in comfort to the smell of "Kentucky Fried" and the music of scraping mudflaps.
We arrived at dusk and were met in the "main"' street by the six foot, bearded, male prefects from Manjimup. That night we dined on the "finger lickin' good" food and lemon cordial.
After, we spent the evening getting to know everyone and exercising our (much) hidden artistic talents by smothering other prefects' faces with removable (?) paint.
The next two days were spent discussing our ideas on being prefects, our aims, leadership activities, very vocal debating on educational issues and other group orientated activities.
In between the more serious activities, we mohawked down the brown Blackwood River, (ever hear of the saying "mud is thicker than water"), sunk a few other canoes and to our revulsion were sunk and returned muddy and smelling of sewerage. Diving practice at the Boyup Brook pool was inhibited, not by lack of talent, some of us even ventured to the high "divey ", but by the thought of contracting ameobic menengitis.
The "finale" of the camp was a wind-up barbecue at the Boyup Brook Country Music Centre where we were entertained by a very Elvis-like gentleman. After, most of us returned home, exhausted, but ready to commence our planned activities.
