During the Prefect Camp in Term 1, the Prefects established a list of objectives for 1985. Through working together as a team we are happy to say that the majority of these aims have been achieved.
Undoubtedly the highlight of our social year was the tremendous success of the School Ball. Months of organisation and preparation went into the Ball. Our expectations were high and the response we received made it seem all worthwhile.
Several school socials have also been held and a good time was had by most.
We consider the highlight of our achievement for the school as the acquisition of some 350 new lockers. The problem of increased numbers, causing severe overcrowding, has been prevalent in the school for a few years now. At the beginning of the year all of Year Eight and half of Year Nine were without lockers. Every student in the school now has a locker. A good deal of the credit is due to Gavin who wrote the initial letter to the state and local government and set the ball rolling.
Other worthy achievements for the school include locks on the upper school girls toilets; acid spray on the verandahs to combat the slippery conditions during winter; an upper school notice board was installed for important information; a radio cassette player was installed in the school bus; a portable dais replaced the brick structure in the amphitheatre so the amphitheatre can be used more widely; power was finally connected to the Prefect room; and the flag poles in the amphitheatre were improved.
An endeavour was made to install a public pay phone in the school but was abandoned due to the cost. The continuation of interschool competition against was not agreed to by the Administration and the re-introduction of the Kingia Festival was considered but the Koombana Kampus virtually replaces the Kingia Festival. A suggestion box for student use was suggested but the school paper included that service.
The Hall was to be made into a student recreation room but we found that impossible as the Hall was being used for classrooms, exams and the Dracula Spectacula. A submission was made to Public Works for fans in the Science room and awnings for the balconies.
During the Year Twelve Camp it was decided that the Year Twelve Graduation should be changed which was one of our objectives.
We all feel very proud at having been able to represent the school in 1985 and feel justified that we have made some contribution to the school.
