BSHS Prefects 1987

Looking back over the past year I can honestly say that being being a part of the prefect body has been a very rewarding and beneficial experience. I know the other prefects feel the same way about 1987.

During the first week of school we participated in a Prefect's Camp at Point Peron at which there were numerous prefects from the South West Region . The main aim behind the camp was to ensure that the prefects from the various schools would develop an understanding of the role they could play that year in their school. Specific skills were also developed For example, we were taught how to run a successful social. During the camp we made a list of objectives. It took many hours of hard work.

This year we attempted to make the school socials more interesting by varying the type of entertainment . Perhaps the most successful of our performers were the band Who's Who and the 'D.J.' Keith Patterson.

Despite our successes many of us felt frustrated by criticism that often came from staff members. We feel the problem is one of communication and we hope that more effective lines of communication between staff and prefects can be set up by the Prefect Body in 1988.

A prefect's job does not include just organizing social events. Through participation in community projects such as the Red Cross and the Salvation Army appeals we have been able to serve a good cause while at the same time raising the status of the school in our community.

It took many months preparing for the School Ball; over four hundred people attended this formal occasion which we believe turned out to be a very successful evening.

Of course this year hasn't run smoothly without the help of numerous people. Due to the many helpers we can't name them all, however we feel that a few should be mentioned. We would like to thank Mr Gangatheran for all the help and support he has given us; Miss Pries for all her time and effort and the Administration for guiding us throughout the year.
