BRODERIE ANGLAISE, CHRISTENING GOWN
A typical mid 19th Century Christening gown with a very wide front frill and fine machine whitework and broderie anglaise. Bodice is composed of vertical panels of broderie anglaise and pin tucks centre front. Skirt has same broderie anglaise inserted in horizontal bands interspersed with bands of pintucks which are on the diagonal. Surrounding this is a 120 mm deep frill of machine embroidery 1255mm in length. Some embroidery band used on hem of skirt. Sleeves and neckline edged with bobbin lace. Centre back opening has tape ties at waist and neck, and a single covered brass button.
