BRODERIE ANGLAISE, DRESS
A delicate hand embroidered baby’s dress, broderie anglaise and satin stitch floral design, down centre front, Canada 1916.
Three pin tucks on each shoulder, entredeux and machine lace edging on the high neck, sleeves and bottom edge.
At base, gathered frill with 4 pin tucks and machine lace. Slit opening at back, but no evidence of closure. Presume once had cotton ties at neck edge.
The dress, of very fine batiste cotton fabric, has been well worn and areas of fabric are coming apart – right sleeve, centre front motif, left side of centre back opening which has been mended.
Lace on edge of sleeve is missing.
