BRODERIE ANGLAISE, DRESS
An example of recycling or ‘making do’ with offcuts of adult garments or fabric remnants into a child’s sleeveless dress. Two different white cotton fabrics and 2 broderie anglaise lace edgings. Opening at the back with metal 2 press studs.
Front bodice section is made of two sections joined at the centre front with a French seam. Small hole near seam. The top band of Broderie anglaise has a join in the front of the dress, indicative of using what was available. At the left side of the back is a patch, covering a torn area. Dress well worn, evidence of a family with limited means, making best use of materials available.
