KNOTTING, PETTICOAT
A late 19C or early 20C example of ladies underwear, in this case a half petticoat. It is made of a fine but strong cotton, and is machine sewn. Rather than elastic at the waist there is a length of tape encased in a band. There are several tiers in the pettcoat. The first one plain bordered by a narrow strip of lace. Beneath is a section that has been pintucked by machine every 2 and a half cms (every inch). Within this section there are 4 inserts of filet lace. Next is a band of filet lace/lacis in a floral rose patter , a narrow strip of cotton fabric then a frill of filece again with a rose pattern and with a scallped edge. In very tiny writing on the inside front of the waistband is the name Eva Robertson.
Some foxing evident in the pintucked section.
