GENERAL EMBROIDERY, DRESS
This cream coloured woollen garment is unlike any in the Collection. Simply made from a rectangular piece of fabric, the top edge bound with cotton tape and cotton tape extended to the armholes and shoulder straps. There is no join/seam at the back. The back of the garment is open and cotton tapes in two places each side, tie and close the garment when worn. The fabric is in two pieces: the French seam on RHS of back is made using herringbone stitch.
On the front, four pleats in the centre, from the neck to waist are embroidered in feather stitch.
On either side of the back is a large pleat, also with held down with herringbone stitching.
This garment was obviously too long for baby, and a 11 mm hem had been roughly stitched in tacking thread with the hem up on the right side. Possibly this garment could have been worn under the garment 2022.12 and turned up for convenience.
There is a large hole on LHS, eaten by moths.
Addition of straps to hold garment up while saving fabric
