Part of an extensive collection of postcards received by Vera VERGE from her sweetheart Private Edward Charles MOUCHEMORE 6351 who served with the 28th Battalion during the First World War. They met in Albany while attending the same school. Edward was killed in action at Bullecourt, France on 3 October 1918 at the age of 22. The collection was kept by Vera throughout her life and donated to the Princess Royal Fortress by a family member in 2019.

On back “No 6351 / 28 Batt / june 7.1917 / My Dearest Vera / just a card to tell / you why I am sending you / this other card / Well I sent / you one today and Walk / ing round tonight I saw / a better one in a little / French shop hear the only / one these was so I got it / Without reading it But / it Will do. I thing I Will / get my teeth [sic] / again tomorrow if I / can I had them done in / england But is is coming / out, It rained hear last / night a lot Was sleeking / out and got Wet through / Well dear I don’t think there / is any more for a while / good Bye love I am yours / truly Ted xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx” written in pencil.
