c. 1917A postcard with a print on the front of a woman sitting on the floor leaning against an armchair and looking into the fireplace. There are two black kittens next to her. There is a sentiment in blue ink in English on the left and French on the right. On the back is a handwritten letter in pencil.
Part of an extensive collection of postcards received by Vera VERGE from her sweetheart Private Edward Charles MOUCHEMORE 6351 who served with the 28th Battalion during the First World War. They met in Albany while attending the same school. Edward was killed in action at Bullecourt, France on 3 October 1918 at the age of 22. The collection was kept by Vera throughout her life and donated to the Princess Royal Fortress by a family member in 2019.

On front “Absence makes the heart grow fonder / L’absence fait croitre l’affection”. On back of card “Well use the stick some, Tell her / not to get the Old woman after / her like Peach did. How is Jean’s / leg getting on has she had it / seen to yet I Wish I was there / now ask her does she Remember / the night We went to meet / you at the church. How is / mum keeping you must / cheer her up dear don’t let / her Worry. It has Been Verry / hot here today I am all sun / Burnt. It Looks Verry much / like rain to night. There / is Plenty of red Currants / and Black Burys here I / had a good feed of them / at smoko I Wish you could / see my cobber out side / chating himself every / night We have to take / off our shirts and have a good / look over them. Give my love / to mum and the girls and little / Bob xx Good Bye dear I am / your ever loving Ted xxxxxxxx” written in pencil.
