The Gladalan Nursery Pty Ltd was established in Grays Road, Armadale in the 1920s and is most famous for developing the Gladalan Brown onion (Amarllidaceae Allium cepa), an heirloom variety bred by Glad and Alan Brown. The building was demolished in 2008. Punnets were traditionally made with pliable materials such as fir, wicker, carboard or willow and were sometimes called 'pottle'. Contemporary punnets are generally made of plastic.
