A cotton material bag, used by City Of Armadale, for Money Collection. At the top of the bag, is a double hem, to allow for a draw string, to close the bag. There is a dark red printed Westpac Bank logo (centred) on the front of the bag. It has hand written writing, on the front and on the back of the bag, as below:
FRONT TEXT: Arena / SUNDAY
BACK TEXT: Armadale Hospital / ARENA
This money bag was used by the City of Armadale to transfer cash from primarily the Armadale Arena, an indoor sporting facility managed by the City, to the WestPac Bank where the City has banked since it first opened as the Bank of New South Wales in c1940.
The cash bag was used in 2011 to transport cash raised during fund-raising events for residents impacted by the Kelmscott Roleystone Bushfire. In the days following the bushfire, 6 February, the Armadale Arena was a dedicated Recovery Centre where residents could access services to help them rebuild their lives. The Community also gave donations to the centre to help out, the donations included cash, food, clothing and other essential items.
The 2011 bushfire blazed through the Roleystone and Kelmscott region, 72 homes were destroyed and a further 39 homes were damaged. Approximately 517 families were evacuated and at least 12 people were hospitalised. It was one of two major bushfires that occurred in metropolitan Perth on the weekend of 5 and 6 February 2011. The other bushfire swept through the hills in the north-east.
