SIGN ARMADALE TOURIST CENTRE

Overview

Rectangular cream coloured fibreboard with a bevelled edge. A green line around the perimeter with a screw hole in each corner. Text is written in brown with a green circle centre on the left with a letter I in the middle. Text reads [ARMADALE TOURIST CENTRE / SIGNAL BOX / ARTS & CRAFTS / Bert Tyler MACHINERY MUSEUM].

Historical information

In 1992 the original Armadale Railway station signal box was relocated to 40 Jull Street, next to the Armadale District Hall, by the Heritage Country Tourism Association. The signal box became a part of a new tourism information centre that also sold local arts and crafts. In 1993 the association organised for local resident Bert Tyler to display his collection of restored vintage machinery and train and memorabilia. This sign was used on the outside of the building to promote the centre and the Bert Tyler Vintage Machinery Museum. In 2004 the management and the ownership of the tourism information centre and the museum collection was transferred to the City of Armadale. In 2015 the museum underwent a major renovation and the sign was replaced with the museum's new branding.
