Statement of significance

This object is part of a collection that is associated with the history of water catchment within the City of Armadale. Three dams, Canning, Churchman Brook and Wungong, that all supply water to Perth, are located in the City. In the 1890s a number of orchards were established in the district due to access to the recently completed railway line and the abundance of water that was available all year long. As the population of Perth also began to grow in the 1890s so did its need for water. The first dam built in the region was the Victoria Reservoir in 1891.
