Overview

Oval shaped wooden frame with a mottled brown surface. The inner and outer edges are faded gold, there are raised motifs of leaves and flowers at N,S,E,and W. The glass is domed .The back has a plastic wood pattern covering, with a ring for hanging and text in black. Portrait of William Buckingham with short dark hair and a full moustache. He is wearing a cream shirt with same coloured tie, tucked into a black waistcoat with a black jacket.

Historical information

William Buckingham was born in 1853 and died in 1917. He was married to Sarah Jane Buckingham and had 13 children with her. William's family was the first pioneering family to settle in the Roleystone district and played an important role in the agricultural development of Perth. They established farms, a vineyard and saw mill in the Roleystone/Kelmscott area and also had agricultural and civic interests in the Wanneroo district.
